Probate in Israel
« on: April 05, 2018, 11:37:03 AM »
Longtime DD reader here, first-time forum participant.  I am hoping that this forum can guide me.  I need to have my mother's will probated in Israel to obtain the proceeds of a pension held there.  My brother and I, U.S. citizens and residents, are the heirs.  My father was also named an heir in her will, but he died intestate.  She worked for a short time in Israel in the early 1960s, and apparently forgot or did not know about this pension.  More than 10 years after her death, the bank holding the pension contacted my brother.  After providing many documents via email, the bank is now requiring that her will be probated in Israel.  Is this something a lay person can do?  I've communicated with an attorney in Israel, and while the fees would still leave proceeds for us, the fees seem high.  Is there an attorney on here who could help?  Thank you!
