Passengers stranded in Mexico
« on: April 15, 2018, 02:05:59 PM »
I don’t have any link, but I heard that passengers on a flight from Mexico to MSP are now stuck there because the flight was canceled due to the blizzard in MSP and this was a seasonal route and that was supposed to be the last flight till next winter! I heard it was a Suncountry flight, but I don’t know anything else. Sounds a little weird to me, I wonder if something like this ever happened before

Wow!
When using a low cost airline, use a credit card with good coverage.
And/or a good travelers insurance policy.

What credit card would cover such an incident?

Wouldn't Amex Platinum, Chase Reserve...  cover this somehow?

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

About?
Risks of LCC's, and which CC to use when booking flights to mitigate the risks.

Will CCs cover more than a refund of the price paid? Last minute flights will likely cost way more than the price of the ticket of the LCC ticet originally purchased. I know I sound like a broken record, but travel insurance is cheap and could be really useful.

Amex Plat covers nothing. Had someone with a medical emergency that needed a flight change and got nowhere.

With CSR I don't see why they cover this

I usually buy travel insurance at around $10 but I fail to see what's insured here, please enlighten me.

Reading their basic coverage info page I’d think that they do..

https://www.chase.com/content/chasecom/en/card-benefits/benefit-details/sapphire-trip-cancellation-trip-interruption-insurance-5000.html
Covered: Severe weather that prevents the start or continuation a covered trip
Not covered: Travel arrangements canceled or changed by a common carrier, tour operator, or any travel agency unless the cancellation is the result of severe weather or an organized strike affecting public transportation.

Cause of cancellation was due to blizzard.

The difference is that they were reimbursed by the airline, the problem was that the price of a new ticket was waay more.

So I wonder:
1) being that they were reimbursed why would they cover?
2) Since the charge was reversed they no longer have CC insurance....
