How do you know they are drained before they are activated? Maybe it's similar to HFT, where they are drained shortly after being activated, before you manage to check.

Seen reliable reports of debits on the card before they were bought/activated.

you could buy as many as you want in one transaction and it will take the purchase fee off all of them. obviously ymmv on the store if they let you purchase more than one. it takes a long time for the system to activate the cards when there are a lot in one transaction.
Im curious to know what people here say to the cashier when they ask you "why do you need so many gcs?"
