Rav Shmuel Felder, posek at BMG, writes in his sefer that one is allowed to fill in the name he plans on giving on the hospital forms. (He says that we just don't call the baby by that name, but there is no reason not to write them on the forms.)

In Monmouth Hospital, they tell you that it can take 16 weeks for the social security card to arrive in the mail. I've always received it in a week or two.

I know someone whose legal name is completely different than his Hebrew name, because his parents changed their minds before the bris.

So his legal name is also Hebrew name like Yoel and his actual given Hebrew name is something completely different? Should have done a legal name change early on.

My birth certificate has my (Hebrew) firstname handwritten in (ostensibly after the Bris) using a spelling I've never used, finally corrected the spelling with SSA in my 20s so that it matched everything else.

You didn't get one automatically when your child was born?
For some reason not. I called and they told me my child isn't in the system. I did get a BC automatically.

You can correct a birth certificate after it is submitted

It really ridiculous the the Social Security Office is still not open and only by appointment.
Earliest appointment for today is april 18th.
If Adams is so adamant that all should be back in the office, then maybe the federal and municipal offices should take lead.

Adams can't really do much about NYS and Federal agencies, other than ask nicely.
