They have a pull chain switch built-in. If you want to use a wall switch, install your wall switch so that it switches the electrical outlet on and off. Then you can leave the pull chain switch in the on position.

I thought of that but I would be doing fresh wiring. Doesn't make sense to wire an outlet to the ceiling and then plug these in. much more elegant to just wire these in if it would work.

I agree that it would be more elegant to wire them directly but they're not equipped for that. It's not so bad to wire up a ceiling outlet in a standard round box. You can always change it later for any standard light fixture.

they are are wired with a plug. If you want to hard wire it just cut the plug off and strip back the wire. Very basic work.
