People seem to missing the point, you can have infrared, night vision, x-ray, etc, but if it doesn't warn you when the connection is lost (for whatever reason), we have a problem.

the one i posted above DOES notify when connection is lost.
Also it is sound activated so it's not constantly running unless your kid is constantly crying (or you have a noise maker in the room)

The Sony BabyCall seems to know how to detect between white noise from a machine and the baby's voice. It only goes on when irregular noises happen, like car horn, voices etc.

This discussion is old and wondering if there's anything newer that anyone can recommend.  Looking for a video monitor, preferably one I can also see from my IPhone (for the crazy parent :) )

We loved our video monitor. Wouldn't dream of not having one in the future. You can always turn the video feature off but when your kid is crying and you are not sure whether it is the "I'm exhausted, lying down but crying myself to sleep cry" or the standing up throwing eth over the railing get me out bec. I am not gonna stop cry" it sure helps to see it before you wake yourself up and walk into the room (wake the baby up more)

Best buy we ever made.

Is there such a thing as a baby monitor which can connect to your phone directly over Wi-Fi?

If your room is within 20 ft of the baby's room, get the Sony BabyCall. Cheap and reliable.
Range is probably longer, just playing safe on the advice.
i have it- worked great for 8 months- now we are having alot of problems with it. Also the range is bad.

I've heard of foscam. I think they work on Iphone too. Anyone have any input on Foscam?

Anyone know the best placement of the camera so we see our baby well?

We bought this from Babies with a 20% coupon, I believe it was about $100.

Love everything about it, (we never tried to set it up as an app, so not sure about that) except after about a year, an encounter with a toilet and a very active baby that would play with the monitor, the screen went crazy 2 or 3 times (simply remving and replacing the battery fixed it every time).
