Many people have also had better luck writing to the office of the President for reconsideration on Citi cards:

It seems like not much luck with recon from Citi. They told me after I get the credit report and I can convince the credit agency they will reconsider. Anybody got citi to change their mind and get approval

That is what Citi recommends. They claim that they base the approval on the credit reporting

Its citi's policy not to approve someone with less than 2 years credit history on 2 cards.

I don't see how calling exp will help.

I applied for the thank you preferred and Hilton cards in Jan. Hilton instantly denied, while ty preferred they wanted me to send in the 45..(can't remember the exact 4 digits) Tax paper, but I didn't send that in.... I called over and over about both cards...nothing. a few Weeks later, got the plain ty card in the mail. What's up with that? Now that I have it, can I try to change it to the preferred?
Always use an Amex, you'll thank me one day.

Applied for Citi Amex and Visa last week via 2bm.  Got approved for 9k on the Amex, declined on the Visa.   Customer service numbers were worthless.  I wrote a letter to Ken Stork, got a call from a CSR agent there this past Thursday who said they would try to shift part of the line over to get approved.  Have yet to hear back from them, but will keep posted.

What did you write in the letter? Did you end up getting approved? I'm in the exact situation, got approved 5k amex, declined for Visa, I can't get anywhere with the supervisors.

I'm looking for some advice for this AOR. The reason for her being declined is because she doesn't really have any history on her CR, the only thing she has is an Amex delta opened a month ago. Recon didn't even want to talk they said show some history and try again in a year. Is there any chance that sending the letter to Ken Stork would make a difference in this case?

I was just denied for the Citi TY card due to having "to many open cards with other banks".
Although, I only have one other Citi card, I do have 3 open Chase and 2 open Barclays.
I called recon to no avail. Asking them to shift some credit from my existing Citi card didn't work as the problem is that I have to many cards from other banks.
Any advice what I should do?
Thanks!

Make her an AU?

She's a AU on all my grandfathers accounts and has been since he had a CC (years). They were bank of America cards.

Try getting her approved for some of the easier cards first. Store cards should work.
I've also noticed Barklay bank - USairways card to be very lenient in granting credit, and giving generous credit lines on first try.
After a few months of those, try Citi again.

So no one is sharing what they wrote to citi?
Letter I used for someone who was somewhat newish in credit history:

"September 12, 2011

Mr. Ken Stork
Office of the President, Citibank

Dear Mr. Stork,

I’m writing you today regarding my recent applications for Citibank credit cards; The Hilton HHonors Credit card, and the Citibank AAdvantage Business credit card.

I was turned down for credit on both of these cards, with the reason that I have an insufficient credit history.

I would like to ask that you please reconsider these two applications. First of all, I am a good standing customer with Citi for many months already, as you can see from my other cards I currently hold with Citi.
Secondly, I have several other cards with other companies like Chase and American Express, also all in good standing as can be seen in my credit reports. So I’m puzzled by the reason given that I have insufficient credit history.

I am not a heavy user of credit at all. I pay all my balances in full every month and on time. I choose to apply for the Citibank cards for the competitive edge they offer.

I hope you will reconsider both my applications and approve them.

For your records, the Hilton card reference number is: 2011------------- and the AAdvantage Business card reference number is: 2011--------------

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,"

I've sent a few letters to Citi, and always got a response from the presidents office, but not the response I wanted, so I stopped writing to them.

They seem to have more conservative guidelines than the other bigies before they grant credit.

if I understand correctly your denial was not for "promo is for 1st time only"
has anyone successfully recon'ed that?
+1?
Should I try writing Ken Stork and TOFTT?
I just got denied for the citi AA biz, and the last one I had was about 12 months ago...
