In the end, during our 16 hour stopover Ethiopian airlines paid for a very decent hotel and transportation to the hotel and back to the airport.
The airline decided to stick another African girl who was on our flight back to DC on our hotel reservation (which is a story for itself). It was funny that they did not let her leave the hotel, but for 20 dollars they were more than happy to drive us around the city for several hours.
The poverty in the city of Addis Ababa is the poorest I ever saw, and its the supposed to be the wealthiest in the country by far.
Wherever we went we had crowds of people surrounding us trying to sell us junk, and collect money of course.
It was a very cool experience but not sure if I will do it again especially with the wife
