I got back today from a quick trip, some info about the food. When I landed I visited Island Crust Cafe as it was on the way to our hotel. We got nachos, 2 personal pizzas, and Italian soda. The pizza was unique and some of the best I've ever had. The crust was delicious and perfectly cooked. I ordered the Vulcan pie, which included a blend of spicy peppers - Herb oil, mozz cheese, roasted garlic, parmesan, jalapenos, chili flakes, pepperoncini, cayenne peppers. My colleague ordered the Pineapple express pie, which as implied, includes pineapples. Not really my type but I enjoyed it. My colleague loved it.
The loaded nachos were good, and more loaded than I've seen before - Corn chips toppled with savory rice, baked beans, cheddar cheese, fresh jalapenos, pickled jalapenos, Pico de Gallo, (roma tomatoes, dice onion, cilantro), guacamole, and sour cream. However, the guacamole was packaged, and the overall flavor was good but not anything special.
Italian soda is a drink I never heard of, but it was great. Made from club soda, flavoring, whole milk, and cream. It's new to me but I really loved it.
The next day I went back to Island Crust and ordered the "Natural" pie -Olive oil, Mozz cheese, parmesan, feta, roasted garlic, oregano, Roma tomatoes. Again, another delicious pie. I’m not the best at describing food, but it tasted so fresh and authentic. The tomatoes were hearty and oozing with flavor and all the ingredients came together nicely.
Also ordered a garden salad, and while the dressing was great, it's a simple salad not worth writing about. Overall, it's an amazing pizza place, most of the other menu items are not nearly as intriguing.
I also ordered from Muriel's through the conference. For the most part I did not enjoy, but hard to judge fairly as some of it wasn't fresh. But the Arthur Levin - Grilled Cheese with Pesto, Caramelized Onions, Muhammara, Mozzarella - despite it being cold, it was really good. Would have liked to visit but I didn't have time.
