I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

YOu earm MR points but you cant use them ??
Or you cant transfer them to  another person ?

Can you transfer them to an airline ?
You cannot transfer them out. You can use them for transfers only if you have a card that allows such. All those have an AF.

I think you can use them for CB or in their MR Mall.

Called to cancel Amex Plat after AF posted.  After the CSR made several attempts, she eventually offered 25k MR points and a $100 AA credit.  Is this retention package worth keeping in light of the $450 AF?

What's the best way to monetize the $100 American Airlines credit?

Just called my gold Amex biz card cuz the AF is due - the rep told me that since I did quite a bit of spending and I have been a customer for 14 years he will give me a $100 AF credit but I read here that people got 20k MR and more...... but when i asked for miles he said not possible so I HUCA . The question is should  I take the $100 credit and then call back and ask for retention miles or loyalty miles or once they give me something the deal is done?

I wouldn't push my luck trying to get retention bonuses twice. Just HUCA and do your best.

I just called about the same card (I have a $175+50 annual fee due). I've had this account open for one year, with a lot of spending on it, and they told me they're not able to offer me anything. Before I HUCA, can anyone clarify whether there is a particular "department" that I should be asking for, or anything in particular that I should be saying when I call? I've just been saying that I have a number of other Amex accounts that I am currently paying annual fees for, and I was wondering if they could waive this one or offset with some MR pts, so I can avoid closing the account.

thx

Does anyone have a screen print of the British Airways CC offer that waives the A/F for the first year?  Just got my 1st BA card and got hit with the $95 fee right away.
What are the chances that I can get the fee credited back?

Try SM and ask them to waive the fee. Worked for me a few weeks ago.

Nice!  Can I ask how you phrased it?  Just "can you please waive the fee?" or what?

You can say you saw it being offered and would like to get matched.

Has anyone had any luck with an Amex Business Delta Skymiles acct? I have a $95 fee due and they told me they "can't" offer me anything.

HUCA?

I HUCA-ed. The rep was pretty "up front" that I didn't have enough spending/activity on the account, so their computer would not generate any offer for me. Then again, why would anyone spend $$ on a SkyPesos card when you could be earning MRs or SPGs instead.  I'm probably going pay the $95 and keep it open anyway, since i've been "cleaning up" with the free baggage on my Delta mistake fare flights.
