Seems like the next time the US48 are getting totality is in 2044, and that’s only in Montana/North Dakota. Is totality worth driving 12 hours to see?

Yes. It's one of the most magnificent sights I've ever experienced.

Also, why is it 12 hours?

Plenty of options. Dallas, Cleveland, Buffalo, etc.

I live in Lakewood. I figure 6 hours drive each way.
I thought about flying but I don’t find driving to the airport, parking, flying, bussing to rental car, driving to city easier or much quicker than driving NJ-OH.

Make that 7 hours
Anyway, as it gets closer check the weather forecast for different locations

All will experience eclipse but which is predicted to have best visibility, viewing areas, etc? (apparently you want wide open so you can experience 360 sunset)

I'd assume Dallas will be the least cloudy, but you really won't have a clue until a couple days beforehand.

Right, but I figure I don’t necessarily need to go Cleveland. Perhaps slightly north of Syracuse, which is about 5 hours. (Although that would mean no Mendel’s, which is a big deal considering I just went to Backyard BBQ in FL and it was nothing like when Mendel owned it😢😢😢.)

Mendel's is well worth the extra drive. It's now significantly better than Mendel's was in Miami.

I have to be in Cleveland for the weekend of the 6th, does it make sense that flights are more expensive than typical because of this?

Though now it got me thinking, if I should extend my trip once I'm anyways there to potentially see the eclipse.

try this drive link
That worked. Thanks. This is what I got from it.

How can it be a siman for peranyos if lunar eclipses can be predicted? He answers that it's just a siman that Hashem is looking to give peranyos. If someone has aveiros then there's an extra bad punishment.
He wonders if it affects globally and if it only affects if you can see it.
He then goes on to say what type of aveiros someone should be worried about.
Goes on a tangent that parshas shekalim (the current week the shiur was said) has two things that you can learn from it. One, that someone is worthy of being counted. Even if he's not the greatest person in the world. Two, something that it's kesef kippurim and that can only be said if you consider yourself a somebody. (I didn't understand what the difference is from one.)
He brings in r yochanan Ben zakai and achiya hashiloni after the first reason to show you don't need to be the greatest.

Goes on to parshas zachor. This is around halfway through.
Goes on to a lot of things that I can't type up quick enough.

Comes out that the type of stuff you need to be worried about by an eclipse is the beartah hara mikirbecha. Something internal to each individual.
I'm not sure what he's referring to exactly. He might be referring to the first thing he mentions when going into parshas zachor that amalek was the first to bring sfeikos into the world. And all kfira can be attributed to them. (I thought Hashem did everything so it can be explained naturally if you want i.e. ruach kadim aza kol halayla?)

Ends off that there's an inyan of delaying mashiach so people should be zoche to greet moshiach. And it's not a stira to achaka lo bchol yom sheyavo. That's what achishena can mean

ETA: the original question about how can it be a siman if it's predictable? I remember hearing an answer to it but forgot it. I don't think it's what he said.
