Enterprise Plus vs. Emerald Club
« on: January 10, 2013, 07:18:54 AM »
Anybody know the ins and outs of which program is a better way to earn free rental days. Enterprise plus is a new program that gets you points based on rental days. Emerald seems to one credit per rental.

I rent from enterprise often but so far never from national

you may be better off with enterprise then bec when you redeem, national is only by airports and enterprise is all over.

then again if you do rent at airports every so often it may make sense .

When logging into enterprise.com you have the choice to log in as a enterprise member or as a national emerald member, it's fairly new though it's been like this for a few months already, they still both have different rates but they each can use the other one's system in their computer.

dont log in. put in your dates to reserve and when you get the rates you will see 2 tabs on top one for enterprise plus and one for emerald club.

At least a friend of mine, who's blacklisted by Enterprise is not allowed to rent by National.   :-[

to break it down.

enterprise has a program that should be "comparable" to hertz, where dollars spent equals points earned. but that is the only similarity. hertz has a set amount of points needed to redeem a day... one way... luxury... even a set amount for blackout days. enterprise's point system has only one benefit, no blackout days. but it will cost you so many points you wont want to spend them.
 i.e.
renting at a enterprise neighborhood location  in los angeles will cost you between 450 and 600 points (hertz is a flat 600) even though ive seen it for more than 900 in los angeles. at jfk it'll cost you at least 800 or 900 a day for a subcompact and i've seen it go even higher than 2500 for a premium, and you will never get the one way option (like hertz) because its against thier policy.

National has a system closer to avis where days are redeemed for days so if i get a free day with national i can use it whenever i want (not sure about blackout dates im not a member)

the issue is when you try to redeem the points. you can only do it online, and since there is no set daily point value, every code you use will give you a different total of points. i tried to call the number on the back of my platinum card but they cant redeem points, neither can you redeem at a location. ONLY ONLINE. therefore you don't get the added benefit of showing an employee your status and having him be kind (free upgrade) and nice (free gas) and quick.

now enterprise sends each tier free upgrade cards, silver get one card gold get 2 and platinum 4. and each tier gets a percent bonus of points up to 20% for platinum.

overall even though it seems like a great program it isnt because enterprise doesn't even consider it a loyalty program it is a FREE rewards program. so if you want a loyal company do not go to enterprise. go to national r hertz.

added bonus no one will status match them not even national their own sister company, believe me i tried!!!

log into hertz to see their point system at this link
