Bed Bath Beyond Registry Returns For Cash

A friend of mine was telling me over the weekend that he's registered at BB&B and that he was guaranteed a cash refund from anything bought on the registry.  A lightbulb immediately popped into my head that if Ploni sets up a registry and Almoni buys everything off of it with a CC, and then Almoni sets up a registry and Ploni buys everything off of it with a CC, they could each just go to the store and get the cash back...in other words free miles!  Anyone ever tried this or is it too much work for too little reward?

It doesn't always work.  They suspended that policy (at least at my area stores) for several months a few years ago.  I don't know for sure if they ever reinstated it, since I haven't had a registry since then.  They don't have to give you any notice if they suspend it, and you'd be stuck with store credit.  They can also see when and where the items were bought, so if they ever decide to take a look and notice they were all bought by at the same time and place, it could be very bad for you.

Fair enough, however, I'd point you to the original comment. There are other ways to meet spending thresholds or rack up points that are probably less... exploitative/damning.

You need to expand your point of view. Everything does not revolve around points and thresholds. When you are dealing in high value items, cash back 99 times out of 100 is the only way to go.

My original post had to with sterling silver flatware (high value items). Someone planning to exploit this (buying/returning) should do it for cash back. Do not think of everything in terms of points or just meeting a threshold.

In other words...you need $500 cash for _something_.  Use the CC to buy the flatware, return it for cash back, and use the cash for something else and you won't need to pay it back for 25-55 days.  In a way, you get a $500 interest free cash advance.

If that's the point you're getting across, then I don't see the confusion.
If I'm still missing the point, then I'm with the other 100% of commenters that don't get what you're saying.
