No, United requires same cabin as well. They can try to find someone on the flight to act as the guardian and submit a refund request for the fee online.

Ok, I'll bite. Depending on the kid, and how it's framed, the chinuch could be pretty bad. Also, depending on the kid, they'll end up walking up to you the whole time, waking you up, and annoying everyone around you. I would much sooner bring the kid with in J.

Maybe it's a Ben zekunim and the parents are at the age where they need a bed.  ;D

Get Netflix and watch at home. Paying for J just to watch movies? It might be cheaper to just rent out a movie theater :P

One can definitely argue it’s totally ok for a child to see a grown up/parent get better accommodations, just as parents tend to have larger beds/bedrooms etc.

There are hundreds of scenarios when this would be perfectly acceptable, and maybe even commendable, unless you know the full situation, please leave your judgment to yourself.

True. But to me this could possibly feel more like abandonment. Again, depending on the kid.

Oh, please don't misunderstand me, I was offering my opinion as an anonymous internet stranger. No judgment, I don't even know you or OP. And only because I was asked, and even then I said that it depends on the kid.

You want to solve this issue and win Chinuch brownie points at the same time? Send Mom up to first class and have Dad sit with him in the back.

The tickets were purchased a while ago, now the son wants to join, and only economy tickets are affordable now.

For what? No one here knows OP or was opining on his specific circumstances. Most of the chinuch points are the same regardless of the background

So don´t give your opinion if he didn´t ask for it.
