So I made an error and forgot to cancel an older INK card within 30 days of the annual fee hitting (life got busy). Over the phone they said they couldn't help me and that they'd have to charge me the fee.
I was going to HUCA, but instead I decided to walk into my local branch, even though I know that the CCs are not their domain.
The branch person I spoke to helped me navigate other options with the person on the phone that I was not given initially:
- Convert the INK BOLD card into an INK CASH card. Since the CASH has no annual fee, the $95 annual fee would be prorated down to about $16. This was a no brainer and I took this option.
- Additionally, he looked at my account and saw that I was paying $18/month on my business checking account, which was an older version of the account. He offered me a newer account option, that with paperless billing, my monthly fees on that account would be $10. Sold!
- Lastly, he removed the last 2 months of fees on the checking account, for a total of $36 in credit, so I actually netted out with a $20 win (instead of a $95 loss), and saving $8/month on the new account!
Moral of the story is never accept the first no for an answer. Either HUCA, or try a branch. They're much better at making you happy in person.
Would personally like to thank Dan for teaching me this concept. Tzadik.
