The way i look at it i'd rather hustle at the beginning of 2015 to get the whole of 2016 as well. I can't imagine SW will allow the CP to be gotten through CC bonuses forever... The longer i can lock it in the better
I plan on getting it through the whole of 2016 as well. Read up on DDMS from this time last year to see how to do it.

I have no idea what you are talking about... I just looked through the whole september's posts and the only thing i could find connected to our discussion us this:
http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/34650

But nowhere in that post does it mention a way to get southwest points that posted in year A (say 2014) be counted towards a CP which can last through year C (in our case 2016) As far as i know there is no way. In order to get CP to go through 2016 you will need to earn a total of 110K in 2015. One could sign up for cards in 2014 only to finish spend in 2015 streamlining the process, But any points earned in 2014 wouldn't count...

Please clarify what you mean.

From what I understood last year (and I can definitely be wrong), this hypothetical scenario would work:

Set your statement date to be the 2nd of the month. Earn 109K points before 12/2/14. Earn 1K after that December statement comes. You will have earned 110K points in a calendar year, but because those last points won't show up until your January statement, you're CP won't go into affect until January 2015 and therefore it will last until December 2016.

Why not just sign up for the cards on Jan 1st 2015 and do the spend real quick and have it last until 2016?

I believe the 50K offers ended well before New Years.

Ohhhh, valid point. So now it all makes sense. Spending 50K today and then 50K after your December 2013 statement, won't get you 110 for the companion until 2015, will it?

No, you need to earn 110,000 pts in one calendar year. By applying late in 2013 and hold off on reaching your $2000 spending limit per card until after 2014 (within the 3 months required) when the 104,000 will post + additional spending to reach 110,000 total.

Aha, thanks for clarifying. Oh well.

same scenario as last year...

ok, then go for it. You might have to make a few calls. I once called several brokers out of curiosity for prices. They all said they don't buy SW.

Does Dan still have a link? Cant seem to find.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

For the 50K? Not currently. Give it another week or 2 if it follows the same pattern as last year.

I opened up a southwest card in April, after closing a different one on in Dec 2013. My bonus points have not posted. To avoid rocking the boat, I decided to wait for another statement to close before contacting Chase. I just realized what may be the issue. When calculating the amount spent on the card, I added the statement balance on each month. The 1st month included a $99 annual fee. I suspect that does not count towards the $2000 threshold. Because I closed my previos SW account only 4 months before opening this one, I'm a little nervous about calling Chase about this issue. Would SM be a better option? Any advice?
