what are the benefits of having gold status on starwood?

i am sorry if this was already posted, but i tried doing some searches and i didnt find the answer.
the search option leaves much to be desired.

i have had the starwood card for a few years but never actually spent $30,000 in one year, bec i have 2 starwoods and a few other cc's

if i only got to hotels about once or twice a year, should i still try to get gold status?

what r the benefits?
