I ended up doing the Kimmel show and had a great time. I even got stopped beforehand for the lie witness news segment, and no it is not staged.

How far in advance did you book?

LA has some of the worst traffic in the world. This is a fact.

I agree, but unlike other cities it's easily avoidable, especially for a tourist, if you know when to avoid the freeways and what the rush hour traffic patterns look like.

2 weeks, my friend did 3-4 days before and got approved as well.

I am fine with paying toll if it makes sense for traffic.
But am I understanding correctly, that from Lax to Santa Monica, or from Santa Monica to Pico/La Brea there are actually no tolls?

If one day, I end up on a toll road, im assuming I can just use Alamo's car without discussing it in advance, and deal with it later, (if I happen to use it)? Do the rental cars come equipped with transponders/ez pass ect?

Is the 1 road the nice scenic route to go up and down the coast that people talk about?

The Marriot Beverly Hills isn't available with points for the 2 nights I would like to go.
Once it's unavailable can availability open up? Or is there any way to do it over the phone?

None of them are truely waterfront.

The Huntington Beach location is across PCH although it has a pedestrian bridge to the beach side.  HB has nice grounds. It's convenient to Main Street and Pacific City comolex.

The Newport location doesn't have as nice of grounds but is conveniently located.  Just 2 minutes to Balboa Island,  Fashion Island and Corona Del Mar.   Probably 10 minutes to SNA.  10 minutes to Crystal Cove and 15 minutes to Laguna Beach

Long Beach (the city)  has no redeeming qualities other than B6 flights out of it's cute little airport LGB

if you somehow end up on a toll road between those places you should tell us and then change your username

You can get stuck in traffic literally anywhere at any random time of day or night...

Of course you can, but you can avoid most of the traffic as a tourist if you plan right. I'm obviously not talking about traffic that occurs suddenly like if an accident happens right in front of you. That can happen anywhere in any City even one that does not normally have traffic.

nobodys responding because la people don't do tolls. post in the alamo thread. or better yet set you gps to avoid tolls and avoid any concerns. it really should not be so bad.

also to help you the one toll i remember passing on the way to san diego one time had the option to go online after (within a certain # of hours/days) and pay the toll. no need to get alamo involved. i don't know what other toll you could possibly be worried about.
