Congratulations. Classic game. The Royals hit in just about every inning in extras. Madsen did a stellar job in icing the Mets hitters. The Royals really showed up and deserved to win. Looking forward to game 2. #LGM
Madson is the guy you're praising out of that stocked pen? How about Davis, who struck out the side in his 1IP, or Young who allowed no hits and just a walk in 3IP?
Either way, I wouldn't say the Royals 'really showed up', as if the Mets didn't. Really showed up should involve much better play than this. Volquez was okay, they couldn't hit at all for much of the game, and that vaunted defense gave up there first run off an error this postseason. But the buzzword on the Royals throughout the postseason has been 'relentless' - is they keep coming at you, all 27 outs (or 42 if that's what it takes). I hadn't followed them much, so it sounded like a bunch of nonsense to me. But this game really highlighted that point. That's how they won it, by attacking every second of the game, whether with their bats, legs or arm.
This should be a really good series. KC's style lends itself to an exciting series, and the Mets are holding up their half in that regard as well.
