I know the fellow who played at the event and actually passed along the message to KCL that it was kosher. R’ Osher Chaim Lieberman was told there was mixed dancing and I got witnesses to verify that such a thing never took place.

They heard erroneous reports but I wouldn’t say it’s egg on their face. Certainly Ottimo will suffer somewhat for this regardless. Cohosting a “UFC Fight night” is a terrible look for any kosher establishment, there’s a reason they switched it to a Kumzitz (after a call from KCL).

Banning a restaurant for a dumb reason (as perceived by many) until realizing how stupid they look, knowing Ottimo would immediately get a new hechsher and everyone would still go there. KCL backtracked immediately to save from further embarrassment and for the paycheck.

Speaking of egg on their face, this is hilarious. KCL knew about the event in advance, they didn't need to rely on hearsay. This is why there was no fight night. They could ask the mashgiach. They had to rely on a rumor and couldn't verify? Maybe I should send them a video. I was there, nothing happened, there was no fight night, and there was no mixed dancing (first time I'm hearing this rumor).

I don’t know if KCL said that was good enough. If it was good enough, the whole situation is a stupid mess created by the KCL for literally no reason. I can only judge based on what’s public. Unless you have more to share, KCL has an egg on their face. They forgot that they no longer have a monopoly on Kashrus in Lakewood and came back running. This would not happen 10-15 years ago.

ETA: KCL flexing and releasing a list of their establishments during the saga was pretty funny
