There is a very long distance between "it would be nice if you wouldn't do that" and wiping off the face of the earth.

"Don't" usually needs a qualifier: "or what?" When the leader of a country which prides itself as being the most powerful on Earth says, "Don't," it's assumed that the, "Or what?" is a somewhat significant consequence. When there is no consequence, there's a legitimate question to be asked.

On the other hand, it still remains to be seen what if any consequences Iran may face. Biden's statement last night did mention convening the G7 and we will see what comes out of that and hopefully it will have real teeth.

I am confused.
The 6-day war was a massive pre-emptive strong response.
There are numerous situations where Israel has responded forcefully (strong response) since then.
Things are not that simple.

IMHO the effective Israeli response should be an unequivocal announcement that henceforth if any of Iran's tentacles (proxies in Yemen, Iraq, Gaza, Lebanon etc.) attacks Israel, the response will be first at the heart (Iran). (And I think the world at large should do the same, and not tolerate what's wrong going on in the Red Sea!)

What will then stop a different bad actor from posing as one of those proxies and attacking, just to stir up the conflict? It's hard to make such a blanket threat regarding proxies.

Sorry, the attack had hundreds of teeth.
The fact the Israel has the best defence system in the world against airborne threats (and the allies helped them against the multitude of threats) does not nulify the fact that Iran attacked Israel with tremendous potential lethality.

And what happens if Iran decides to use it's closest and most heavily armed proxy, Hizbullah? Who pays the price if the Iron Dome and Iron Clad and any other defense system has a tiny failure that results in loss of innocent Israeli lives?

It's a tough dilemma. No one wants escalation. No one wants an official WW3. But the price for avoiding an open and declared WW3 is an ACTUAL WW3 that has been going on for years with the IslamoNazi Ayatollah regime working mostly through proxies, and other Islamic forces around the world fighting their own Jihad.

In other words @CountValentine, how many of your own children would you be willing to sacrifice to avoid escalation into a declared WW3? (this is the dillema faced by Israelis. I don't envy Netanyahu, or other decision makers).

It's a tough dilemma. No one wants escalation. No one wants an official WW3. What would actualy happen if the US and its western allies decided to go full out against Iran and its proxies? short of nuking the place, how long would it actully take to nueter the entire Iran axis?

And from another perspective, that I would assue many here might agree with, there's a price to pay for being arrogant and over confident in one's own abilities. Humility, especiallly in front of the Master of this world, might be the recipe needed.

I have posited that Trump being elected president was a sign from above to all pundits and political experts that they are lacking humilty. When that didn't work, the world got COVID-19, where all scientists and leaders needed to say was that this is beyond them and caution is needed. But instead they continued with the arrogance of KNOWING what's going on, what needs to be done, how the virus acts, how it is transmitted, etc. etc. ALL OF WHICH HAVE BEEN PROVEN WRONG.
