Your my new rabbi! If u say no yeshiva, no yeshiva it is!
Look my beef with yeshivot is that they turn out robots. Kavana somehow equals getting all intense and screaming and shuckeling.
I mean yeah I daven loudly and at times and feel very spiritual and emotional but it's also about knowing what you're saying as rav jb soloveitchik wrote "one needs to ensure that his emotions are tempered, or it's like an overflowing river that destroys all"
Perhaps my teachers did not know better but the story of rav amram and unisane tokef is nice but he didn't write it, Cairo geniza documents show it's much older.
But piyut is powerful and you need to read a lot if not most in English, you need to know backgrounds, we are missing out.
If you take the time to read the history of each tefillah like why the shliach tzibur says heyei am pifiyot or ochila lael achale laad ( tur orach Chaim 591)
Or where does viduy stem from? Part is from Daniel's prayer etc.
But truly if you read the tefillot in English and know the background, you will be changed forever.
