I now have (among other cards) the Chase unitedmileageplus and the continental onepassplus credit cards. Both advertise that with the card, on Star Alliance flights, you can check your first bag free. Does anyone know whether you can check two bags free (per cardholder) if you have both cards?

Thanks,

Chez

it also allows 1 free bag for everyone in your party up to 8 and then the logic should follow that if everyone had a united an co cc
yould end up with like 18 (2 from yourself and an additional 2 for every person that had the card)  pieces per person
good luck explaining that to the agent

1) The T&Cs I have (at least the post 7/19/11 T&Cs, and the current advertisements I see) state this applies to CO/UA operated flights only, not *A flights.  If I'm missing something here or you're seeing something advertised differently, please correct me.

2) Also on their T&Cs, (again, assuming post-7/19...but this will apply to everyone 1/1/12) this is limited to the primary cardholder and one companion listed on their reservation and the reservation must be paid for using that card.  IMHO that would mean you get 1 free bag per person for up to two people, period.

This is strictly going by their T&Cs.  I don't know how an actual agent would handle it if you presented two cards, and it wouldn't hurt to ask, but I would assume we would have heard something differently in the forums by now if what I said wasn't true.

Side question are there any advantages with the co card over the united or reverse? I have both which i got for signup bonus but dont need both once they stary charging annual fee.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

They're the same AFAIK except CO is a MC and UA is a Visa.

side side question,

I payed for a ticket for my brother with my CO card.
is there anyway that he can get free checked bag?
I was thinking if adding him as AU?
Do they actually have a way to check in the system who is primary?
or does the system automatically flag the ticket for a free bag when booking?

They don't check if he is primary. The system won't automatically flag the ticket for a free bag as he is not the primary but he can just show the card at check in and get the free bag.
