LG G2; Best Android Ever?
« on: October 20, 2013, 04:55:56 PM »
Anybody pre-order the LG G2? Supposed to have  brighter screen, better processor and better battery than the S4. As well, you can take full HD at 60 fps. Finally!
The only downside is the lack of removable battery and SD card.
I have enough bad experiences with Samsung's (2 x S2 and 1 nexus) I'm ready for a change! 8)

Looks like a great device. Unless you don't like the UI or the feel of the device I'd say you'd be happy with it.

Btw- why do you say finally? Is the S4 too slow for you?

Comparing the S2 to the S4 is just plain silly.

..and 1 Galaxy nexus. All three had the same issues with Wi-Fi and GPS. As they say; strike 3 you're out!

Where is the 3rd strike.
The S4 is significantly better than those 2 phones in nearly every way.

I wouldn't say the G2 is WAY better than the s4. They are pretty comparable. But if you're looking to try something new it's definitely a great choice.

How could not having a removable battery not be a deal-breaker?

Hopefully I can help with this one. I've had the galaxy nexus as my personal phone for the last 2 years and upgraded to the LG G2 during the glitch and kept my unlimited data. I also have the galaxy s4 for some time from work. I've always been a fan of the nexus / stock android, of removable batteries and sd cards.

In a perfect world, the G2 would have a removable battery and sd card slot, but the specs looked sick and I had to go for it. I must say, I have no regrets.

This phone is a beast. It is fast and has a looong battery life. My nexus was always down to 20% at the end of the work day. My G2 is typically at 60%, and rarely ever below 40% before I put it on my Tylt Vu wireless charger at night (which i love btw).

I've also been very surprised by how much I like the stock ROM from LG on this device. I did root the phone, am using Nova Launcher, changed the DPI to fit more on the screen, and removed the carrier check for the hotspot, but on the stock ROM.

Some features I really like on this rom include: knock knock to turn the display on or off (very convenient), when you get a call or text while using the phone (watching full screen video, etc) a little pop-up comes up noting the call or text without interpreting your activity allowing you to easily decline it, or answer/respond.

All in all, loving this phone.

Why compare it to the 2 year old GNex instead of the S4?

The Nexus never had good battery life. Even 2 years ago it's rivals beat it in the battery department. So honestly saying any phone has better battery isn't saying much anyways.

I think the stock ROM from LG is way better then the stock touchwiz on the S4...I find the g2 to be a much more sleek, good looking device... better battery in the lg (it is 3000 vs 2600 mah after all), and like that the lg has the bigger display in essentially the same size device by having moved the buttons from the side to the back.

Was in a T Mobile store today and was doing a comparison by playing Temple Run on the iPhone 5s and LG G2 vs my Nexus. Surprisingly, my Galaxy Nexus's Super AMOLED display with 1280x720 pixels (315 ppi) was more vivid than both the G2’s 5.2-inch 1080 x 1920 advanced IPS LCD display (424ppi) and the 5S  640 x 1136 Retina Display (326ppi) as they looked lighter and more washed out. Maybe it was just a fluke with the way Temple Run is coded on each device. I found the 60 fps video a lot more smoother than your standard 30 fps camera but still a drop jumpy. Not sure if something is up with the auto-focus but it took me a few tries to focus properly. Also, I found the G2 to have a less 'cluttered' look than the s4. Interesting similarity. Both the G2 and the Nexus have 3 touch sensitive buttons on the bottom that dim to a small dot when not in use. Not sure about the power/volume buttons on the back as I couldn't really hold it properly, but I can see someone hitting the volume button when trying to turn it off and vice versa.
