Amex Small Business is offering up to 30k Amex points with there FX International Payments.

"You can receive 15,000 points when y :-\ou activate your FX International Payments account".
The transaction to activate the account can be USD to USD.

In order to earn the second 15,000 points, three (3) (not counting the activation transaction) foreign currency transaction (USD to USD transactions not eligible) must be completed within ninety (90) days from account activation.

Open card members have no transaction fee for the first 6 months.

This service is subject to approval by Amex.

Valid until June 30, 2011.

For the miles, I think its a great deal. I'm not sure if there is a minimum required transfer, but even if yes, it would be nominal against 30k MR.
If you don't like it, get the miles, shut it down...

To use regularly, I think you can't know if its a good deal unless you can get the rates. Id say they're pretty competitive.
The waived fee is a massive plus.

But I didn't look to deep because 1) I don't have an Open Card. 2) Without having a CC with Amex I'm thinking I won't get approved...

When I was speaking with a banker about this, he told me this crazy story.
He once had a client, someone who over his years had made tons of money and was still making high 6 figures a year. However, this guy never took out a line of credit in his life. As his kids got older he wanted to buy a couple of properties for investments and for his kids to move into later.
Went to speak to the bank about getting a home loan. Low and behold, he can't be approved because of his credit score/report, or lack thereof.

He ended up just paying cash for the properties, to the tune of over a million dollars...

Now, if I was in that position, I don't need any CC's but I'm not quite there, yet

Note that a business is required with a tax id number and business checking account and the owners ssn.

You can definitely try, but they ask a whole bunch of questions about the business and it ended with it saying they will get in touch with me. If you do sole-proprietor just be prepared for questions.
I used a real tax id number.

Are there any liabilities to using a real tax-ID number?
Did they request statements? (I currently don't have any accounts for that tax-ID, only a biz account with SunTrust)

So I started signing up for this when I first saw this and then I guess I forgot about it. I got a call about a month ago from Amex asking me if I was still interested in this. So I filled out the rest of the paperwork and answered a bunch of questions and after a few back and forth emails, just got accepted.

Now just need to figure out how/where to make these payments.

Open (Business) American Express had a banner today on my account. New promo. Looks intriguing.

I am breaking down the fine print to make sure but at first glance this looks good.

BTW: This promo seems to be only hot if you have a legit business. If you do international transfers then give it a try and earn points. They do require real business info so your "tutoring" business probably won't cut it.

This is nothing new, it's a big hassle to get them to approve your account, not worth it IMHO.

Also, did you know you could edit your original post?
