with structure fires on the rise r'l how well equipped are you against fires?
sprinkler systems are meant to save lives not structures,
smoke detectors can alert you in time to save yourself and sometimes early enough so you can try to put it out, but you need proper tools.

do you have fire spray meant to put out oil cooking fires?
do you have a fire extinguisher?

this looks interesting

We have a fire extinguisher. The issue is that it's buried in our garage.

I remember seeing these spray can style fire extinguishers too.

I have some spray can and standard ABC fire extinguishers around easily accessible. I also have a fire escape ladder on each floor of my house.

according to this interview the father woke up from the smoke detector and saw the table burning

would a fire extinguisher help in such situations?
and what is the correct thing to do when someone finds themselves in such situation on shabbos can they attempt to put it out because no one really knows the boundaries of a fire and how much time everyone has to escape safely or just grab your family members and run

The number of house fires in Lakewood this past few days definitely does not seem normal.

I don't know any specifics for this particular fire.

But in general there are a number of norms that our community may not think twice about. Think leaving a stove flame on for as long as 72 hours, unattended with everyone asleep and shabbos candles unattended.

There are safeguards that can be put in place, but overall all this puts our community at a higher fire risk.

I guess you must be sleeping in the kitchen every Shabbos

IIRC if you check the NJ government website on fire safety you’ll see a significant amount of their fire safety awareness dedicated to Shabbos/Chanukah/hot plates etc.

Your sarcasm proves my point.

Most/many wouldn't even realize that certain practices are against basic fire safety norms.

Our lifestyle requires one to be super diligent about fire safety,  not just average. And that leaves a lot more room for error,  sadly.
