When going away for 3 days in the winter from NJ  if you leave heat at a temp of 60 or more do you still need to let some water trickle in one of the faucets?

Depends on how your house is piped. I lived in a house that had all the supply pipes on interior walls and the water source coming in from underground. Left my house at 53-55 whenever we went away for more than a few days, never left water running, and no problem.

If your supply pipes are in exterior walls and they aren't well insulated you might have a reason to tale extra precautions.

Maybe someone else can help based on that info but its still going vary from house to house. If you're not comfortable enough always better to go with the safe than sorry approach

FYI: If you need to change the bearings on a washer don't get cheap ones. Crap I bought lasted 8 months.

Would a infrared camera (flir type of gadget) be able to find an air leak from a compressed air tank hose? Is the air colder than the surrounding air if itl was compressed?

I have an appliance of sorts that uses compressed air to run. There's a leak and I cant figure out from where. I was thinking of using a smoke machine but I'm not sure if it will ruin the machine.

I'm not sure but have used a dye to inspect for a/c leaks, would that work?

How do we stop this?

Does anyone here have a Pesach dishwasher?

I'm wondering what would be the best practices to prevent damage from it sitting dormant for 12 months

After the cycle is over, keep it open so it dries completely.  Then ignore it until next chol hamoed. Or, if you store your dishes in it, remember that before next Pesach.

Just had my 4.5yr old Kenmore French door die on me. All fans were running, just not blowing cold. Was hoping it was just the relay, but want confident in testing myself and couldn't wait for replacement to swap. Service tech tried a relay, did some more tests - compressor is dead.

He said it would be $800 or so to repair, told me to just buy new instead. Looked up the same model, 4.5yrs later and it's $1500 - I paid $900 back then. Inflation FTW.

Anyway, enough venting. Thread description doesn't match, but seems like the best for for the question without opening a new thread. Considering a few options to replace, one of which is this GE for 1600:
https://www.pcrichard.com/ge-36-in-27.0-cu-ft-french-door-refrigerator-with-internal-water-dispenser-stainless-steel/GNE27JYMFS.html

The question is whether shabbos mode might be a little less harsh on the compressor, versus taping the switches?

Any specific feedback from folks regarding reliability of brands (GE, Samsung, LG, Hisense)?

This may not be the correct thread but hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

A friend of mine has a chest freezer that broke while he was on vacation and over 1k worth of meat spoiled. He renters insurance would cover it if he can prove there was a surge or something similar.

Does anyone know of anyone that can come check out the freezer and potentially right such a letter.

Is there something like this that could be used for heavier duty appliances, looking for a set it and forget it solution to shut down a tankless water heater for shabbos and Yom tov

It looks like a Honeywell, and it probably is (plus proprietary software), so I'm guessing it handles up to 15A/1800W. Obviously this couldn't switch the main power to a tankless water heater, but does the heater have a safety switch for servicing? IME big appliances (like furnaces and ACs) have relays built in for safety and servicing, e.g. chimney sensor, water level, etc and you could probably add this switch in the same way

You're right, and even if not I can always add an external relay
