I worked for myself and sat on a jury. IMHO this is the most childish thread I've read in a while. Be an adult, do your civic duty. In NY you get called once every 8 years, for 1 day. Most cases are civil and settle when the Jury is seated. Otherwise, if it costs you a week to learn about the legal system suck it up. If you were on the other side you would want a jury of your peers, not a jury of people who have nothing better to do with their lives.
Personal experience, person i know lost use of his right hand 98% in a construction accident. Insurance company offered 300k for a minimum $1MM injury. Because he drove a fancy car the jury found that he didnt need the money and awarded him $65k. So it works both ways.
All i can say is do it and you'll be a better person for having done it. I personally sat and acquitted a guy who was being railroaded by his ex-wife and the DA.
