New Credit Card Number
« on: March 31, 2015, 01:54:22 PM »
So I had my credit card replaced about 3 months ago and I just logged into an old yahoo account of mine and saw they had the new number.

How did they get it?

Also, I have a few other recurring charged that also come through. I thought when you get a new number old charged don't come through automatically?

Could be. But then how is that supposed to stop unauthorized charges?

I'm not positive, but I think that certain "trusted" merchants get the new card information automatically. Not sure of the details though.

If you want to stop a particular merchant from being able to charge you (even with the new card), you can put on a merchant block.

I had the same question. called amex and chase. they said that the merchants have an option of signing up for a feature were they would automatically be notified of any changes. They use it to benefit the customer for automatic billing. Strange, but I just had citi prestige card closed more than a year ago and saw a charge post from United Airlines for $50 on 2/23/15.

I put a merchant block on Budget in Tel Aviv so they put through the charge through another location! I called Chase and they said they can put on a more comprehensive block.

Which banks besides for Amex will give you the credit card number and information before you receive the physical card? Or will have it overnighted for free?
