What happens in a normal year? Shkiya was close to 30 minutes later than usual.

We are used to that. We can't understand how its possible to have a break of 3 hours .
Musaf takes around 4 hours. We don't go very slow but we don't go fast neither. Maybe we are saying more פיוטים then חב"ד? I'm not sure.
I guess it also depends on the size of the shul ?

My shul had a similar start time and break (though between mussaf and mincha, not shachris and mussaf), and I've had YK elsewhere that started earlier and ended later with absolutely no break. But this just sounds like poor planning.

Is there a rov in the shul that approves of that mehalech? It just seems backwards.

The baal tefillah for mincha in our shul is very much not a chazan, and goes what I would consider fast. Yet I could never imagine spending only 10 minutes for chazaras hashatz, with slichos, viduy, avinu malkeinu, etc.

I thought חב"ד was the only place where there's no skipping, because there are much less פיוטים in the Chabad machzor. I guess there might be other places that don't skip, but they didn't get the part about not inserting so many פיוטים in the first place.

There's no skipping because the machzor was designed with only the piyutim that Chabad says. Everyone else shares the same machzor accross a wide spectrum of minhagim.

Genuinely curious how it can take so long. And how your attention span lasts that long.

The alter rebbe took out a lot of piyutim from the Siddur. Afaik he held it was a shaila of a hefsek.
I heard this at a shiur don’t have the makar.

I'd guess that many (most?) chassidusin spend the entire day in shul, with a little break of an half hour, usually between shachris and musaf. I wonder how it goes in Yeshivish circles.
I know that Lubavitch and Karlin cut majorly on Piyutim, maybe it's the Russian chassidus?

Also of note that our minhag is to have a break specifically after Musaf.

The length of the break varies widely, but it's always after mussaf.

I only davened there Mincha and Neilah. Wasn't feeling well so I davened adjacent to מרכז גוטניק לקטנים ולגדולים. Was also useful for arranging minyanim so I was able to get maftir and maftir Yonah.

Mincha started 5:15 (too early IMHO).
