Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Does chase claw back sign up bonuses? If I buy something and return it will they take back the bonus?

As far as I recall only the spend bonus is clawed back, not the signup.

Very new at this, so please excuse what may be a very basic question:

AmEx claims that points are not awarded for purchasing cash equivalents such as reloadable cards. Can anyone weigh in on the accuracy of this? If an Amazon gift card is buried in a grocery purchase at a ShopRite, will the system really filter out the gift card and only give me the 3X points (Premiere Gold Card) on the other items purchased?

Completely false. You can go to a supermarket, ONLY buy a gift card, and you'll get 3X points on PRG/2X points for ED etc.

Looking for some basic advice on ways to get the most bang for my buck from Amex MR. Using their shopping portal, points amount to 1 cent apiece. What are the most lucrative programs to trade into?

Found a flight on American that I was interested in (Philly to Portland, stopover at LAX--I'd get off in LA.) Great deal on the flight, now...how to book? Can go directly through Amex's travel portal, but don't get more than a 1% return on my points. Was thinking about a transfer to Avios. Here's my question--the flight won't show up on BA's site the way that other American flights do. Keep getting an error message that BA doesn't fly that route, at least not that time of year. Can anyone help me on this?

I think that with avios, your charged for each segment...just making sure that you want to be in both lax and portland

It's sounds like you're confused. If you use Avios for the flight then whatever cash deal you found is irrelevant, and you don't need to book it as a hidden city.

How are you guys getting 3PPD at supermarkets? It should be 2 only airfare is 3PPD?
