No Programming or web development questions ;D
:( I really only have Development and Sys Admin stuff.
Can't remember the issues I used to run into when doing home office related stuff years ago.

Although an FTP server issue is in the Sys Admin category...

How about this one:
Apache (web server) stopped responding and refused to start again even after a reboot of the server. Configuration files were fine. Any ideas?

Edit: I'm happy to pass if this scenarios target audience is too small...

Bingo!

I am pretty sure that was the issue, as I had issue like this a handful of times when trying to connect to your own external IP
Many times switching between active and passive will resolve this issue. Or you can setup a route in your router. But the usual way to access an ftp server in a local network is by using the servers local name or ip.

FTP is really old fashioned and works in a weird way with the random ports and 2 ports per connection...

That's actually a good point. One almost always wants to connect with a passive connection.

Locally the only point of connecting thru the external IP address is to test if its working properly, which when its failing to connect is really annoying as it seems like there is an issue when really there isnt

FTP is meant for external network use and is setup accordingly, what will it help to test it internally? Say it were to work internally it does not mean that it works externally, all the port forwarding testing can only be done externally..

That's not 100% true. FTP is simply for transferring files regardless of internal or external network.

Correct, but in this case it was setup for external use hence the testing via public ip. For internal use you need the local ip or computername.

Here's one that I had today: Guy has his email hosted by GoDaddy he's using MS Outlook everything working great. This morning every time he tries to send a message - it asks him to put in his password. Even if you type the password it still wont work. Tried changing his password but still gets the same message.

Gonna take a stab here, but when this happens to me at work, I have found that it is looking for the domain in front of my username. Therefore, I would say that in the dialog box where he has to enter his password, more likely than not, there is a place to put in his username. If so, make sure he types in his full email address (including the @domain.com) part.
I have nothing witty to write here....
