Me? I use both. My mother's family and my mother in laws family use only horseradish. The idea of using lettuce with horseradish is a pretty recent one.

No. Saw in Sefer that most Poskim hold lettuce is preferred way of Maror. Some poskim argue and say that since today's lettuce isn't sharp should use horseradish. Many use both (myself) and some poskim say they should be done separately.
while it may be true that according to the poskim lettuce is better, most Jews nowadays are descendants from European jewry. In Europe (and Russia) it was very uncommon to find lettuce, as it doesn’t last too long without refrigeration. This led to many Jews using horseradish. As pesach is the ultimate day of following minhagim and mesorah many Jews still use (plain) horseradish. Being that the poskim say it’s better to use lettuce, this led to many doing lettuce as well. But combining the 2 together doesn’t really have a basis in Halacha because ממה נפשך, if only one is maror then you aren’t yotzei by eating it with something else, and if they both are then what are you gaining…

What do you mean by texture? You're not eating the Maror plain are you.
and yes I eat it plain. So I also would like to know if it ruins the texture

Easier to eat but still want the sharpness and to follow the tradition.

I wasn’t asking on why people would do it, but rather pointing out why if we’re going strictly with Halacha, you can’t say that most won’t eat plain chrain

Of course. Even with the lettuce we make a scene. But if there's a chance that some at your table wont eat a kzeyis then there is halachik reason to use lettuce.
