United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Let me ask this one again, if my last bonus on this card has been more then 24 months ago, but card has only been canceled like 4 months ago I should still qualify for a new bonus, right? and no new FFN should be necessary ?

I'm not sure if the 24 month rule applies to the bonus only or to active card accounts in the past 24 months....

I booked a domestic award flight in Feb 14 for Jan 15, and paid the taxes with my card to get the free baggage. I then canceled the card in May 14. My tickets were reissued in Jun with a changed itinerary due to one flight being canceled, and I noticed that in my new itinerary it showed charges for the first bag, even though it still showed the taxes being charged to the Explorer card. Now in Aug 2014 I signed up for a new card (under a diff FFN) which I will merge with my current card once I get the points. My question is, what will happen in Jan 15 when I get to the airport, and what do I say to the agent if there's an issue. I still have my old card and itinerary showing that the taxes were charged to it. Thanks.

Why not follow the wiki and create a new FFN?

Just called Chase, rep checked with her manager and got back saying that the 24 month rule applies to the day when the card was closed and has nothing to do with when you've received the last sign-up bonus.... so that mean another 2 years wait for me on this card  :(

That's not what their terms state.
"This new cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this consumer credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer credit card within the last 24 months."

That's exactly what I said... but she insisted that the terms on their website are misleading

To find another incompetent rep?

These reps aare known to give negative answers on these kind of questions.

Why not apply with a new FFN?

Didn't read, was assuming we're talking about post-facto.

Either way the language online is very clear and not at all misleading.  They will stand behind it.

So then its just a case of DROPR and once the card is closed in a few months it would be safe to apply and open a new one according to the terms of the card using a new FFN?

The $25K needs to be in calendar year or my membership year?

TY
Every calendar year.
Anyone ever try asking for bonus for 25k in membership year?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.
