United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

If I downgraded the card to the no AF version, do I still need to close the card before reapplying (with the new FFN)?

My card is still open, though it has been downgraded for about a year. Should I apply tonight while the bonus is available, or close, wait, and hope for a SM match?

I opened my explorer card 2 years ago, after half a year I added my wife as a "joint account holder" not an additional (was a mistake) they never even took my wife's FFN. Last Thursday I downgraded the card to the "united rewards card" they told me they will send me the new cards in a few days but the old cards are still active as long as I don't activate the new ones, I didn't get yet the new ones.
Is it safe to aplly now for my wife for a new explorer?? (with a new ffn) I want to make the sep 2nd deadline

I just applied and received this message:

"Please call us as soon as possible at U.S. 1-800-527-7419 or International 1-302-594-8200 Mon-Sat 8am-10pm ET and Sunday 10am-9pm ET to discuss your application with a Customer Support Specialist."

Does anyone know what this might mean? I had this card before, but received the bonus more than 2 years ago and used a different FFN.

It could be they are active as the United Rewards card even though the card is physically explorer cards. When you switch  a regular sapphire to a freedom card it works like that. You should call and ask.

Just call.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Nothing to do with the bonus. They wouldn't tell you to call to say you're not getting it. They probably just want to verify some information.

I just did a 3BM for the United MileagePlus Explorer, BA Visa, and Sapphire Preferred.

The BA card was approved for 8K, but the others are in "review". I plan to call the reconsideration line to get them pushed through, but my brother told me that I need a reason I want all 3 cards, such as specific perks each one gives. Any advice what I can say about why I want all 3 cards?

Any other advice of getting these all approved?

Make sure to try and only talk about 1 card at a time. Then only if they ask why did you apply for so many should you have to list reasons, and those can be as simple as listing some of the benefits of each card - oh I fly UA a lot, so having a free checked bag will be crucial, etc.

+1 Go to Credit card page on chase.com and see which benefits they push for each card (besides the sign up bonus) and tell those to the rep.
