I think he means 4 out of 5 of the ffp featured in the article not on aussies list

Ah. The article is dumb on so many levels. It's like airlines, and air travel outside the US almost don't exist (when really that's where FFPs really matter the most).

I would hope the one that isn't in the.worst mix is Alaska.
Although sometimes hard to get to a gateway city on low award (a la Delta) they have some truly awesome award redemption opportunities, especially on CX...
That was what I meant. I learned from the best

This isn't much different than the people in shul that say - wait i get 1% cash back on EVERY one of my purchases and what on earth would I do with points?!

Besides the huge fact that they do not take into account any annual fees or restrictions, many people seem to somehow not realize that points actually do have a cash value and if it's cash you want back, you'll still come out way ahead if you churn mileage cards. Ignorant masses - yes, but it works out better for the rest of us ;)

http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2011/pf/1105/gallery.best_frequent_flyer_programs/index.html
just saw this post-
1) I know i'm asking for it but just recently i booked tickets  SWA lga-mdw roundtrip fot about 11000 points total after companion pass - how exactly are the other mileage programs beating 5500 points a ticket plus 2 free bags per passenger,  best deal u can ever get is 15000 plus $50 per bag per passenger rountrip)
granted, on expensive long haul cross country flights 25000 will be a bargain compared to SWA but it seems to me that each program has its good part (also the other airlines seem to treat u like trash unless u have status)
2) a friend of mine does a lot of spendin in pounds about $300,000.00 a year so he needs the best cc without forex fees
would u still be adamantly against the cap 1 venture that he currently uses?
please advise yes or no and why

I'd use the Chase Sapphire or even the AMEX Premier Gold (even without being able to transfer to Continental anymore) over the Capital One Card.

I do NOT like Capital One...    And with the Sapphire and Gold you are getting double points on many purchases so I wouldn't feel like I was missing out.

Quote from: dan
Ask Capital One how many miles they want for a trip a round-the-world ticket in First class suites like my wife and I took earlier this year. The retail value was about $250,000. Thus you would need 25 Million Capital One “Miles” for that trip.
Or you can use 230,000 or 280,000 AA miles, regardless of the price of the tickets.
185,000 Starpoints become 230,000 AA miles.
185,000 Starpoints or 25 Million Capital One points. Tough call…
Or a more common redemption, a business class ticket to Israel with a cot of $5,000. With Capital One you would need 500,000 miles. With Starwood you can transfer 100,000 points into 125,000 USAir miles and have more than enough miles to fly on any Star Alliance carrier without any fuel surcharges. Or go in business class for as little as 40,000 points with some surcharges.
A Capital One point is worth a penny a piece no matter what. It can’t be worth more than that. With real airline/hotel miles and points the sky is the limit. 2 cents is the worst you should do, but 50 cents per points is entirely possible as well if you play your cards right. That’s a whole lot more fun!
Now if you just redeem for domestic coach and you always redeem months in advance you may do better with Capital One. But that last-minute ticket from NY to Cleveland will cost $1,300 or 130,000 Capital One points. With Sapphire Preferred you can transfer to Continental miles where you will need just 20,000 for the round-trip. With the 1.07 bonus that’s just 18,691.

I just think Chase and Amex have WAY better customer service and benefits. And your'e getting more value for you money spent.  Unless there's a specific reason you need to be using Capital One.. Chase Sapphire is better.
