Sorry, but $40m divided by 100 winners (lump sum is ~$20m pre-tax) divided by 100 winners, that’s $200k/person pre-tax, I prefer to donate the $ to Tzedakah than buy the $40mm ticket. $200k just isn’t the same dream.
I hear that. Truth is, I'm not even dreaming of winning. Some people pay $2 for a chance to dream - I pay $2 for a chance to hock here.
(I actually think it's pretty common for people to purchase event tickets just to be able to be part of discussion and "in on the action", even when they don't really have any personal interest.)
If you really just want the dream, wouldn't you be better off buying a ticket every week? For $12M post tax you can still dream, and the difference between 1 ticket and 100 tickets in terms of dreaming of hitting the jackpot is negligible.
