Trying to understand why people collect Hilton points by signing up for multiple cards in order to use them at high end hotels (@ 95k/ night) when FNC are selling in the range of $250-275/ night (versus using almost the entire SUB for 1 night)
just curious as using this method requires credit pulls, annual fees and spending money. I do understand there are other benefits i.e. status, but that be achieved by having a friend with status book for you. Only thing missing is 5th night free but cant see that outweighing all else.
by my calculations:
5 nights @ 95k each = 380k points or 5 FNC @ $250 = $1250
Now while 380k points is the SUB from 3 cards on average, you cant value the points directly against the above $1250 as .....
you also need to include 3 x hard credit pulls, approx $300 in annual fees, $9000 in required spending (which has a rounded value of $200 using a 2% cashback card).
In other words 1250 - 300 - 200 = $750/ 3 = $250 net value from each card and thats before even putting on a valuation for the credit pull.
I may be wrong but I aim for a $500 SUB valuation in deciding whether its worth having a credit pull and .....
