If this rumor is true, it is probably the result of the idiot who posted this Amex offer and how to ask for it on sd.  >:(

It is obvious and has been mentioned many times, that when it comes to these kinds of offers, we should try and keep it quiet as much as we can. Keeping it within the DD or FT forums is a good idea. They guy wanted to get some "reps" on SD, so he went and blew it.

This was the same issue with the Sapphire card. If it was not taken to SD, it probably would still be available.

Hasn't Amex offer matching been going on for years though?

+! SD kills deals

Spoon-feeding deals to people leads to abuse, stupidity, and taking things for granted.

I'm probably going to miss out on the 100k match for Business Plat now.

I hate SD, that place is a menace.

Slick Deals. It's where deals go to die because they get assaulted by a legion of morons.

The codes he listed are for Gold Premier and Gold Business. No mention of plat on there.

Doesn't matter though, Amex will implement a policy most likely that requires actual invitations.

My favorite part of his post is where he says he has "been churning Amex promotions for years", does this dumb idiot not realize he just killed his ability to churn the offers he isn't targeted for?

Hopefully it dies down. The thread on SD is full of morons bombarding the wrong departments with requests for matching.

Ugh I hate SD.

I heard word that Amex is going to start insisting that you have a coded link or invitation. They are upset that people are "sharing codes".

Just a heads up.

This is shocking news

aaa you don't think that Amex will start requiring invitations?

I know I've read that some Amex CSRs have said Amex policy is to not refuse a match if the person has a correct code.

I am now almost certain that SD is causing this Amex denial, and has caused the Chase Sapphire denial as well. Search for the Chase Sapphire thread on SD, more than 95,000 views!!!

I am very suspicious, up until the last two weeks, I have had no problems matching codes. Now I have been trying for a whole week to match the Amex Gold Biz, and they won't budge.

I wonder if there is any way to have SD delete that thread.

Just a thought:

These points must cost the credit card companies quite a bit of money. If you can get a $1,000 HD card from Amex for 100,000 points, Amex must be paying HD close to $1,000. They only offer these deals to lure customers into getting these cards, so that they should rack up large bills and the credit card companies can make a fortune off of the interest.

If Amex, or any other CC company suspects that you are taking them for a ride, then they will throw you overboard.

My theory is that if any senior financial officer at Amex knew about this bonus "matching" thing, they would shut it down instantly. The luck we have is that when you call or SM Amex, you are talking to a lower lever CSR (usually Indian) who is trained to be nice and helpful, and could not care less if they give away $1,000 of Amex's money.

Now, since there are so many CSR's, even if a thousand people call or SM asking to match a code, it will probably go unnoticed. However, when a dumb idiot posts it on SD, that is like handing over the deal to a mob to get lynched. You can expect tens of thousands of people to call Amex begging to match codes. This, in turn, alerts Senior big shots at Amex, and they shut it down.

We threw this around way back, its definitely not the case. American Express is fully aware of whats transpiring and for whatever reasons they are ok with it. Dont recall where we discussed this in length, but you should be aware that in May many csrs were awarding the extra points and many requested faxed copies of solicitations. Currently, no one is rejected for this offer; you can say straight out you saw it online and they will still honor it. The policy has been edited or confirmed in our favor for the time being.

Yeah but for how much longer since it's on SD now? No telling how many of those morons have been bombarding Amex with match requests.

You were right AsherO, they declined me for the Business Plat. Is it worth it to call recon or should I not even bother?
