Okay...

Any recommendations for a good story album for kids? I have all the classics, plus more, so what I'm really looking for is a good album that somehow fell through the cracks of the mainstream world.

Isn’t it best you offer a list that people can add too, otherwise it’s hard to know what you’re including in “mainstream”.

Now that's I've completed the list of albums I'm familiar with... can I re-ask my original question?

They aren't children's stories though.

The music on story tapes usually isn't appreciated until the 1000th listen and/or the child matures.

You can add Country Yossi to that list. But I've found that my children are not drawn to them overall. Yes, a few songs hooked them completely, but they want me to play those over and over, without listening to most of the other songs.

My son was singing and reciting the entire MMM 4 (I know, I know) at full volume during musaf on Rosh Hashana .

I don't think he's referring to most of those songs.  I think he's referring to songs like a scroll of parchment on the Golden Crown.

Yep. The catchy ditties (I'm a Hippopotamus et. al) are enjoyable for the kids, the other "adult" style songs aren't (initially) interesting to them.

I feel that the adult songs are akin to rhymes in kids books: they're there to keep the adults listening/reading sane.

I know your question was not directed at me, but I did like your post, so I'll explain why. I automatically like any post that has the words "The Golden Crown" in it. You can even change your signature to "The Golden Crown" and I'll just start liking all your posts...
