Should There Be A News And Current Events Board?

For me splitting up the forum to too many boards makes it less convenient to use.

For example, if I had wanted to post (and I didn't want to, but if I had...) the article from last week's NYT that politicians in NYS banned the use of corporal punishment in private schools, would that go under News? Politics? GD? JS?

I was posting to register anti option 1.

The 2 vs 3 choice seems to be asking where News/Current Events should go.  I can see the pros and cons of each, but the concerns people are expressing seems to relate to how they each individually access or read the boards, and I don't share those concerns, so don't really favor either one.

The majority of the current poll didn’t vote yes (option 1 above). If a new poll was put up as to whether the Politics board should be renamed to include News and Current Events, the majority of voters would oppose that.

Status quo is fine, but still leaves news coverage in this amiguous GD/JS/Politics situation. But maybe that's fine, big world events and news go into GD and the thread later get moved to JS or Politics.

I used to rely on ddf for major news updates, being that dan is refusing to have a split thread just for updates i'll have to revert to other forums that do have just news posts, it's impossible to keep up with ten unread pages just to get an update of the current events

Please explain what part you find annoying and if there’s a way to mitigate that.

Imagine you can collapse all the tangental arguments in the current Israel-Hamas thread, and just see the first comment in those tangents and choose whether to expand/contract them, you don’t see that as valuable?

It's not a refusal, it's that people turn them into discussions, which just means there's multiple of the same thread.
It's tough to police.

is it possible for mods to restrict a user for a specific thread? if yes anything opinionated is a strike, strike three you lose your write access to that thread, it will not take much, you're not sure? post in the discussion thread.

Somebody makes a post on breaking news in the war.
What's the protocol from that point when someone wants to discuss that news? How do you stop a news thread from from becoming a discussion thread?
