AAdvantage award fee workaround still works?

Hey DDF peeps!

Just booked some sweet tickets in first class with miles, to avoid the less then 21 days advance fee - i booked it for a month from now and plan on calling tomorrow to make a free change to next weeks correct day.

Does that trick still work? please help, if not im screwed $125!!!
