Booked 2 OW tickets and outbound flight (on AA with Avios) was cancelled due to snow in NYC tomorrow. The return (on NK) is on 3/22 after the snow and NK said too bad. Any suggestions on how to get some type of credit?

I have no experience with NK but aside from HUCA, I don’t think any recourse. Purchased with a CC that has trip protection? Maybe the CSR? (I also have no experience with using that, either.)
ETA: Maybe when you HUCA, speak to supervisor, explain that they will likely need your seat due to anticipated rebooking from all the cancellations and IRROPS on 3/21. You were calling out of concern for other pax and wanted to be make your seat available in the easiest way possible, ie, refund it and then NK can resell/use it. Just a thought.
