Aha, so you risked going to jail in Jordan over a small bribe to the police officer? Smart.
How am I going to Jail for not paying a illegal bribe? FYI I recorded everything and its accessible online, so incase of any issues I have all the evidence.
Just curious, did they outright ask for an amount for a "ticket" or whatever? I think if it wasn't a lot, I'd rather pay then have that half hour arguing, but that's awesome that you had the koach to stand up to them!
Some positive commenting, finally.
I don't care how much it was! It happened to my other friends that visited Jordan and they did the same. I, and others have visited other countries where this type of behavior is somewhat regular but never paid a dime. In Jordan they do this on the roads leading to Petra. The cops there know they can get into trouble but takes the risk doing it.
Its a long story for a different time. But I actually met some ranking Police Officers in Jordan (not street cops) and they care very much about tourism, even jews. They have a special police force called "Tourism police" and officially, any interaction with a tourist (at least in the petra region) requires a Tourism Police officer to be involved.
Circumstances make a difference and in certain countries it might just pay to pay.
FYI, you can always offer them a credit card number telling them you have no cash. They will decline.
