Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Loading the Target Prepaid REDcard (Redbird) with new registers/POS (K8)
« Reply #10744 on: August 07, 2015, 03:30:12 AM »
Hi all, I wrote a step by step guide on how to load gift cards to Redbird with the new Target registers (K8): https://plus.google.com/u/0/+NoonRadar/posts/82eSPgNCGi5

If you've already loaded with the new POS, please take a look at my post and if you see something that I missed, or if you had a different experience, let me know via a comment there so I can update the guide. Thank you.

I'm having a lot of trouble loading a $500 one vanilla today. I get through all the prompts but I keep getting a message at the end that says something like "payment type not accept. Contact card issuer" iv tried 2 different guest services registers and 2 regular registers. This is all on the new system. Any ideas or tips?

Are you sure you have not set a different pin . Or card has been tampered with . Have receipt from where you bought it ?  Also selecting DEBIT ?

I definitely didn't set a different pin. Card wasn't tampered but when I bought the card I bought it with 2 more cards and the cashier messed up the transaction and had to "refund" and charge each gift card separately. I do still have the receipt. I called the number on the back of the card and it says that I still have $500 available. I even tried loading $250 but still no luck

Were you trying split payment? I had that once and called the card issuer who told me there was an attempted charge of 1k obviously the cashier messed something up with the split payment
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Nope, no split payment. I called the card issuer to see what the problem is but they said everything is fine on their end and the card should work. They made me email them proof of residence and the receipt so they can send me a new card. Hopefully it's just a problem with that gift card

Does the linked bank account need to be in the account holder's name?

IME they have always asked to verify the bank account with the first page of the statement so yes.

Uch. Mailing checks to my home takes so long. Would be nice to be able to just withdraw to bank. Oh well. Thanks.

Is it bad to use a shared bank account that has AH's name on it but also the name of someone who has another RC?

As long as the name on the RC matches the account it'll be fine.

about to hit $20k on my total load for the year.

would someone mind explaining the consquences of getting a 1099 from them if i go over 20k?

Can you just simply show/keep receipts of deposits so there are no tax consequences?

TIA
