The reasons we were always told that we can’t drive included, “Tznius, es past nisht, it’s not eidel and it’s not for a Yiddishe Mame.”
There is no real reason in my opinion.
I was just discussing this topic with a real Chassidish friend of mine who would never drive - because of family, schools etc. She told me that if not for those issues she does not see the problem with it. Again, she is very Chassidish.
At this point, it is a tough rule to undo. If people were denied this prospect until now, how can they suddenly allow it? The schools are the ones putting the most pressure on families. If you are moving out of town and looking to get into a new school, your children will not be accepted if you drive.
