Fios cable in apartment building
« on: January 21, 2015, 01:10:32 PM »
Can they use existing coax in the apartment for Optical Network Terminal? or Would they have to wire new fiber cable from the hallway?

the fiber goes into a fiber modem and out of the modem is ethernet so coax won't help
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

what's up with Optical Network Terminal? Why is it so big? Can you suggest ideas to hide it? I thought about installing it in a closet, but it doesn't have outlet

They can run fiber to the ONT and then use existing coax from the ONT to the router.

Really? I didn't know you can connect a modem to a router with coax

The ONT isn't a modem. It terminates the fiber connection and has both ethernet and coax out. The router that FiOS provides is also a modem and can use coax or ethernet for its WAN side.
