Exactly. To you and me it looks odd. As to us payos seem to indicate a certain level of conservatism. And there are other things that just don't jive with long payos in my mind.  But for reasons that are beyond me, it seems like in certain cultures it means something else.

I guess when one doesn't hang around much of a yeshivish crowd one might not grasp the dissonance. 'round here we don't really see much variation in tzitzis length. It's either wool, none, or some will wear cotton. Wearing a cotton T.K. in Crown Heights isn't something as common as elsewhere.

Talking about dissonance... Seeing a person wearing a t-shirt with a gartel over it (something that, for whatever reason, seems to always come with some affiliation to Lubavitch), shorts (with decidedly long tzitzis that has been tucked in sticking out from the bottom of the shorts) talis and tefillin, in 770. Some might not see the dissonance, but I guess I am old fashion.

Years ago, after a chol hamoed afternoon at the aquarium, we exited onto the boardwalk with many other frum families and Mincha broke out.  A guy jogging by in sweatpants jogged over, flipped up his hoodie and joined. It was a hoot.

We had a bochur in yeshiva that was very busy with his muscles he took calcium..... One day he got hagba and he couldn't lift it, the 1st seder magid shuir sent him out to get something and asked everyone to be sensitive about this topic and not hurt his feelings

"Safety" sounds like it's mostly about preparedness. Unless she was wearing a parachute, being a skydiver wouldn't help much if she fell off...

Being a skydiver means she isn't likely to get into a panic attack from standing there. And is highly accustomed to safety procedures. Being a Yoga instructor probably also helps with flexibility and mind over matter and emotions.
