I don't think the issue is that the arena staff asked them to remove the sign. Their responsibility is to ensure players are able to do their jobs within reason. If a player is bothered by an offensive sign, it should be removed. The question is why Kyrie found the sign offensive or disruptive to his playing. And that's on Mark Cuban and the Adelson family to deal with (or not).

And if kyrie had asked them to remove a pride symbol they should have done so?

Even if the sign was a direct attack on kyrie, they have no obligation to remove it on his request. It's extremely common for away players to deal with signs, chants, songs, screaming that are insulting, hurtful, and extremely personal.

Utah jazz statement says it wasn't because of the content.

Their excuse they say doesn't really ring true either, because fans wouldn't be able to distract free throw shooters then, for just one instance.

Also, the fans didn't create a disturbance, the player did.
