Really?
I find close to zero value in SPG's top hotels.
Hyatt is far more accessible.
I could be wrong, but when I was starting here a year ago, I felt like you talked about SPG properties so much, and I thought for sure those are the cards to try and churn. Once I realized how hard it is to collect SPG (with the current state of AMEX affairs), and how much top-tier hotels require, I've become much more interested in Hyatts.

SPG still has value in hotels but after adding category 6 and 7 and then doubling/tripling the points needed at most category 7s  the high end stuff rarely is a good value.  What used to be 12K in BOB went up to 120K...
So there are good in the lower categories, but the airline transfers are what keeps the value of SPG up.

Then again when I started the top Hyatts were 15K/night :(  At least those are still capped at 30K though.

Huh? Dan was always a Hyatt fan... You gotta spend 2 or 3 times the amount of SPG points for a top tier hotel that you would have to when using Hyatt points

WOW, now I see why those were talked about so much. Also, didn't follow the bump in tiers. Without having points back then and just starting to dream, I guess I ignored news about cat 7 increases ;)

Wasn't saying that he didn't like Hyatt also, but I thought the focus was always SPG. And per his response, I would say he didn't exactly argue with me.

Yes, just stayed at the Gritti Palace for example in Venice. USD cost was $1,450 approx. No way I can afford that.. 35k SPG to me was amazing value. Hyatt is also GREAT but they dont have so many properties as SPG

I've redeemed 11k SPG points for Sheraton on the falls for rooms that were going for $350 a night, still for top tier hotels Hyatt is the way to go.

Still i value more my MR ;)

There are times where using SPg makes sense, but overall, IMHO, there is a much better value transferring to Hyatt.

The relative ease to getting Hyatt Diamond can add a lot as well...

You really think the Gritti was worth twice the price of the Westin?
There are very very few hotels in the world worth 35K SPG a night to me.

I was perfectly fine at the Westin and didn't think the Gritti looked like it was worth the premium.
Then again the Westin was a 5 when I was there.

Look at the Hyatt Diamond Trial thread. Should all be in there. Essentially get the trial, meet the amount of nights (which can be done on the cheap at low tier locations with C&P) and done.

They have more high end properties where you get a good value when redeeming points.

SPG has 1,200 properties & Hyatt has 549. I find SPG to be more easier & with plenty of value when I book.
Hyatt has at this time 0 hotels in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale area.. SPG has probably 6 or so.. Just an idea..

Either way, SPG Is indeed valuable when redredeeming for lowthe end hotels however when it comes to redeem top tier hotel Hyatt is the way to go.
